History and philosophy

Carner Barcelona was established in 2010 as a family venture: Sara Carner, founder and creative director, and co-founder Joaquim Carner come from a family of leather craftspeople, and bring that same craft culture — deeply rooted in Catalan tradition — to perfumery. The house's founding ambition has always been to share Mediterranean culture through scent, building a collection that is accessible, modern, and wearable, crafted from carefully selected raw materials and produced locally.

Every fragrance is conceived and developed in Barcelona, from the juice to the bottle design — characterised by clean black-and-white lines, a sustainably sourced wooden cap, and a silver nameplate evoking the ornate nineteenth-century wrought-iron doorways of the city. The maison is now stocked in over five hundred points of sale worldwide, all while preserving its artisanal identity.

The style

The common thread running through Carner Barcelona's creations is a recurring presence of woody accords — wood being described by the house as both its visual and olfactory signature — paired with families ranging from Mediterranean florals to leather, fresh citrus to spiced orientals. The fragrances are developed in collaboration with noses from houses including Givaudan, among them Daniela Andrier, Christophe Raynaud, Sonia Constant, Rodrigo Flores-Roux, and Shyamala Maisondieu. The portfolio is organised into thematic collections, each reflecting a different facet of Catalan culture and landscape.

  • Mediterranean Collection — fresh, luminous fragrances inspired by coastal living; citrus, white flowers, and light musks define the character.
  • History Collection — deeper, more layered interpretations that traverse Barcelona's cultural history, with spiced, resinous, and woody accords.
  • Woody Collection — the stylistic heart of the maison; wood takes centre stage in warm, smoky, or balsamic expressions.
  • Black Collection — bolder, more projecting compositions, often built around leathery, musky, and tobacco-tinged accords.
  • Dream Collection — gourmand and floral compositions with a silky texture, designed for enveloping, intimate sensations.

The most celebrated fragrances

Among the more than thirty references in the catalogue, several have established themselves as cornerstones of the maison, both for their olfactory distinctiveness and their fidelity to the brand's founding vision.

  • Tardes — one of the first two fragrances launched in 2010, signed by Daniela Andrier. A woody floral musk opening with almond, geranium, and rose over a heart of cedar and plum; base notes of tonka bean, heliotrope, and musk. It evokes the stillness of a summer afternoon in the Mediterranean countryside.
  • D600 — launched in 2010, signed by Christophe Raynaud. A spiced woody fragrance with an opening of black pepper, grapefruit, and bergamot; a heart of iris and cardamom; base notes of vetiver, vanilla, and Virginian cedar. The name refers to the intersection of two of Barcelona's principal avenues.
  • Cuirs — from 2011, signed by Sonia Constant. A leathery, spiced composition opening with saffron; a heart of sandalwood, patchouli, and guaiac wood; a complex base of oud, labdanum, tonka bean, and amber. One of the most representative examples of the maison's oriental depth.
  • Bo-Bo — launched in 2019, part of the Mediterranean Collection. A citrus floral with bergamot, mandarin, and blackcurrant; a heart of African orange blossom, jasmine, and lily of the valley; base notes of white amber, vetiver, and musk. The name references an ancient Catalan folk dance.
  • El Born — named after the historic Barcelona neighbourhood, this fragrance belongs to the History Collection and is defined by woody, spiced accords that speak to the city's layered history.
