History and philosophy
Stéphane Humbert Lucas came of age as a painter, trained in the South of France in the technique of tempera under a Flemish master, before moving to Paris to pursue his study of pigments and their physical properties. It was during these years that he discovered his own synaesthesia — the perception of colours as scents, and of sounds as fragrances. This sensory fusion became the creative engine behind the eponymous maison he founded in the early 2010s: a space free from the constraints of marketing, conceived as a direct extension of his artistic sensibility.
The brand grew out of Lucas's deep attraction to the Middle East, which he regards as the cradle of civilisation. The Orient is treated not as exoticism but as a source of beauty, mystery, and wisdom: the compositions evoke the richness of spices, the depth of sacred resins, the softness of flowers, and the structure of precious woods. The number 777 — the founder's favoured figure, laden with symbolic meaning — distils this pursuit of perfection, happiness, and spirituality.
The style
The fragrances of Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 are built on exceptionally high-quality raw materials — oud, amber, leather, roses from various origins, balsams, precious woods — with high concentrations that ensure remarkable longevity and sillage. The founder personally signs the majority of compositions, sometimes in collaboration with perfumers Vincent Ricord and Karine Chevallier. The predominant olfactory families are woody oriental and floral oriental, frequently with resinous and animalic accords that recall the aesthetic of the great Arab perfumery tradition.
- La Collection 777 — the original line, inspired by travels through the Middle East; built around oud, amber, spices, and resins, with tall-shouldered bottles and honeycomb metal caps.
- La Collection Serpent — a symbolic and mythological journey through the universal figure of the serpent; exploring metamorphosis, sensuality, and power by drawing on legends from diverse cultures.
- Concentrations predominantly in extrait de parfum format, with high-density olfactory formulas.
- Considered packaging throughout: sculptural flacons, Orientalist surface treatments, and elaborate presentation boxes that complete each piece as a unified artistic whole.
Best-known products
The collection comprises over thirty unisex references, with several titles that have defined the maison's reputation within the international niche perfumery circuit.
- Ô Hira — an oriental fragrance launched in 2014, built on amber, leather, and precious woods; a dark, resinous opening that evolves towards toasted and animalic notes, and one of the maison's most ambitious expressions.
- Oumma — from 2013, the first year of the collection; an accord of multi-origin roses (Moroccan, Bulgarian, and from Grasse) with Egyptian jasmine, balsams, and a base of oud and cade oil.
- Qom Chilom — launched in 2014, inspired by the cherry-scented pipes of Iran; a fruity opening of cherry and raspberry, a woody heart of oud and iris, and a base of leather, patchouli, and vanilla.
- Black Gemstone — a woody oriental with incense, cedarwood, and citrus notes; among the maison's most frequently cited titles by enthusiasts for the complexity of its resinous accord.
- Sand Dance — from 2022; a gourmand oriental with an opening of whisky, coriander, and mandarin, a heart of cocoa and sandalwood, and a warm base of vanilla, benzoin, and tonka.
