History and philosophy
Ramón Monegal was born in Barcelona in 1951 into a family deeply rooted in the history of Spanish perfumery: his great-grandfather Esteve Monegal i Prat opened a pharmacy that became the founding nucleus of Myrurgia in 1916, an official supplier to the Spanish Royal Household. Beginning his training in 1972, Monegal refined his craft in Geneva under Artur Jordi Pey at Firmenich, in Grasse with Marcel Carles, and in Paris with Pierre Bourdon, building a formation that spans architecture, design and communication alongside the chemistry of essences.
After more than thirty years as creative director of Myrurgia, Ramón Monegal left the Puig group in 2007 and, following a period of reflection, founded his own house in 2009 under the name Ramon Monegal. His stated aim was to compose fragrances free from commercial constraints, treating each creation as an «olfactory fiction»: a narrative born from an idea, a memory or a dream, in which the quality of raw materials takes absolute precedence over market logic.
The style
Ramón Monegal signs every fragrance in the catalogue personally, working in his own blending and maceration laboratory with raw materials of the highest calibre — oud, iris, musks, amber, leather, Mediterranean citrus notes — built into compositions of clear architectural structure, with a recognisable balance between intensity and lyricism. Olfactory families range from floral woody to oriental, with frequent references to Spanish culture and landscape.
- Spanish Collection — a tribute to Iberian tradition, with fragrances evoking flamenco, Andalusia and the family's own history.
- Don't Touch My Oud Collection — personal interpretations of Arabian oud, ranging from woody-spicy accords to animalic and chocolatey ones.
- Ibiza Collection — luminous, Mediterranean fragrances inspired by the island, with marine, citrus and floral notes.
- Kaleidoscope Collection — compositions exploring a variety of olfactory families, reflecting the nose's technical versatility.
- Katharsis Collection — fragrances of a more introspective character, built on deep, textural accords.
The most celebrated fragrances
Among the more than sixty references in the catalogue, certain titles have established themselves as benchmarks of the maison for their distinctive character and compositional complexity.
- Impossible Iris — unisex floral woody eau de parfum (2010): Italian iris concrete intertwines with mimosa, raspberry, ylang-ylang and Virginian cedar in an ambiguous and refined composition.
- Agar Musk — oriental woody eau de parfum (2009): Arabian oud, leather, nutmeg, vetiver and musk in an austere and enveloping accord, one of the brand's earliest releases.
- Flamenco — floral fruity eau de parfum from the Spanish Collection: rose and raspberry over a base of amber and cedar, one of the maison's most recognisable titles.
- Soul of Oud — oriental woody eau de parfum from the Don't Touch My Oud collection: Assam oud, osmanthus, chocolate, rose and vetiver in a layered and richly textured structure.
- Cordoban — eau de parfum inspired by Andalusia: an accord of leather, woods and spices reflecting the artisanal heritage of the city of Córdoba.
