History and philosophy
Gian Luca Perris was born in Rome and trained in economics, yet grew up immersed in his family's olfactory world: the Perris Group, founded in 1981 by his father Michele Perris, has spent decades distributing luxury cosmetic and fragrance brands across more than thirty-seven countries. In 2011, Gian Luca chose to establish his own venture, headquartered in the Principality of Monaco, with a clear ambition: to return to the heart of the craft, placing the quality of raw materials above the business of building a name.
The philosophy of Perris Monte Carlo rests on a principle of purity: every fragrance begins with the direct sourcing of the finest natural ingredients available worldwide — oud from Laos, Pacific sandalwood, ylang-ylang from the island of Nosy Be, rose from Taif — processed with methods that respect traditional practices and woven into contemporary formulas. The gold that appears on every bottle and box is a visual expression of this positioning between classical luxury and artisanal rigour.
The style
Perris Monte Carlo's fragrances move predominantly through oriental and woody territory, with forays into precious florals and Mediterranean greens. The noses behind the creations include Luca Maffei, Mathieu Nardin, and Gian Luca Perris himself, who also collaborated with Jean-Claude Ellena on the Collezione de Grasse. Concentrations range from eau de parfum to extrait de parfum, offering richer and longer-lasting versions of the principal titles.
- Gold Collection — the original line, inspired by the Middle East and its prized ingredients; it brings together the maison's first five fragrances and defines the house's olfactory identity.
- Black Collection — takes a darker, more intense direction, with extraits de parfum that amplify woody and resinous raw materials.
- Italy Collection — dedicated to Italian Mediterranean essences, from Calabrian citrus and neroli to Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian mandarin.
- Collezione de Grasse — a tribute to the world capital of perfumery, developed in collaboration with Jean-Claude Ellena; it favours traditional Provençal flowers such as lavender, rose de mai, and tuberose.
- Extrait de Parfum Collection — extrait versions of the most celebrated titles, with a high concentration that enhances their longevity and projection.
The most celebrated fragrances
Amongst more than thirty-six listed references, certain fragrances have established themselves as benchmarks of the maison, owing to the quality of their raw materials and the precision of their compositions.
- Oud Imperial — an oriental woody fragrance from 2012 by Luca Maffei; a heart of oud, incense, and saffron over a base of black wood, labdanum, and cedar. Also available as an extrait de parfum.
- Bois d'Oud — launched in 2012, it opens with bergamot and traces oud through a floral heart of rose and jasmine, settling on a base of ambergris, patchouli, and vanilla.
- Rose de Taif — introduced in 2013, it celebrates the rose cultivated in the eponymous Saudi city; a floral oriental of rare botanical precision.
- Santal du Pacifique — from 2016, signed by Mathieu Nardin; a creamy woody composition built around Pacific sandalwood, with a soft and enveloping dry-down.
- Patchouli Nosy Be — uses patchouli from the Robertet plantation on the island of Nosy Be; an oriental spicy fragrance with notes of cocoa, labdanum, and vanilla.
