Moebius: Contemporary Independent Artistic Perfumery

Moebius Fragrances 莫比乌斯 is an artistic perfumery maison founded in Shanghai in 2021. The project is built around the mathematical concept of the Möbius strip — a surface with no beginning and no end — translated into unisex fragrances that weave together Eastern and Western cultural references in compositions of a distinctly contemporary character.

History and philosophy

Moebius Fragrances was established in Shanghai in 2021 with a visual and conceptual identity inspired by the Möbius strip: a geometric form with no fixed direction, endlessly folding back on itself. This principle of continuity and perceptual ambiguity shapes the construction of each fragrance, designed to dissolve the boundaries between Chinese culture and European imagination, between the natural and the abstract.

From its very first release, the brand was structured around three distinct collections — Exclusive, Soul and Tea — each with its own expressive register. All compositions launched in 2021 and bear the signature of perfumer Tianyou Lou, the central creative force behind the maison's olfactory identity.

The style

Moebius Fragrances works through carefully calibrated contrasts: citrus or green openings giving way to floral or mineral hearts, over long-lasting woody and resinous bases. The orientation is resolutely unisex, and the palette of raw materials draws as much from the traditions of Western perfumery — iris, guaiac wood, tobacco, oakmoss — as from ingredients rooted in Chinese culture, such as oolong tea, osmanthus and plum blossom. The result is a distinctive aesthetic that avoids redundancy whilst remaining immediately legible.

• Orris TEAsense 鸢尾岩茶 — part of the Tea Collection; it brings together iris and rock tea from Mount Wuyi in a powdery, green accord of rare elegance.
• Par Fume 云烟雾影 — a woody, smoky composition built around hay, tobacco, guaiac wood and orris root; one of the most talked-about and admired titles in the catalogue.
• Creator 追光创想 — a citrus and marine opening over metallic and mineral notes, with a base of myrrh, sandalwood and patchouli; one of the clearest expressions of the brand's hybrid style.
• China Plum 白璧青钱 — evokes a sylvan landscape through an earthy, woody accord reminiscent of damp forest floor; masculine in inclination but resolutely unisex.
