Memo Paris: Travel-Inspired Niche Perfumes from Paris

A niche perfumery maison founded in Paris in 2007 by Clara and John Molloy, Memo Paris builds every fragrance as a travel note: an olfactory memory of real places, rendered through precious raw materials and compositions of distinctive character. The house's defining quality is its ability to evoke a geographical destination with sensory precision, free of gratuitous decorative flourishes.

History and philosophy

Memo Paris was born in Paris in 2007 from the shared vision of Clara Molloy, a poet of Catalan heritage, and her husband John, an Irishman and passionate traveller. Their complementary backgrounds — she rooted in literary and poetic tradition, he drawn to the physical exploration of the world — became the conceptual framework of the brand. The name itself is a contraction of "Memory" and "Memoirs": each fragrance is conceived as a sensory document, capable of restoring the atmosphere of a place truly experienced.

The maison's motto, "The Journey is the destination", is not mere rhetoric but a genuine working principle: every fragrance is the result of time, careful sourcing of raw materials and collaboration with perfumers chosen for their shared vision. Memo Paris conceives its creations as Travel Notes — olfactory annotations of real destinations, from the Iberian Peninsula to sub-Saharan Africa, from Texas to Turkey — and builds around each one an architecture of notes in keeping with the landscape evoked.

The style

Memo Paris fragrances are distinguished by the use of high-quality raw materials and a particular affinity for the leather olfactory family, interpreted through different geographical lenses. The perfumers who collaborate with the maison — among them Aliénor Massenet, who signed the house's first fragrance in 2008, and Gaël Montero — share with the founders a pursuit of unexpected combinations and an approach of restraint rather than excess. The collections are organised around olfactory and cultural themes, each sitting alongside the others without overlap.

  • Cuirs Nomades — the maison's signature leather family; it brings together fragrances inspired by diverse geographies (Africa, Ireland, France, Italy), interpreting leather through local moods and raw materials.
  • Graines Vagabondes — a botanical and fruity collection inspired by the plant world and the vitality of seeds; it spans fruity, aromatic and powdery olfactory families.
  • Fleurs Bohèmes — a floral interpretation of the travel poetic, with compositions drawing on botanical traditions from different continents.
  • Escales Extraordinaires — fragrances of more pronounced character and higher concentrations, conceived for destinations of strong emotional impact.
  • Extraits Cardinaux — extrait de parfum expressions in which the density of raw materials reaches its fullest intensity.

The best-known fragrances

Within the maison's extensive catalogue — spanning more than eighty references — certain fragrances have earned broad recognition, both among niche enthusiasts and among those discovering artistic perfumery for the first time.

  • Irish Leather — fresh and green leather, built around juniper berries and concrete iris: a tribute to the Irish origins of co-founder John Molloy.
  • African Leather — warm and spiced leather with cardamom, saffron and geranium; it embodies the wild, sun-drenched character of the African continent.
  • Lalibela — the maison's first fragrance, released in 2008 and inspired by the sacred Christian city in Ethiopia; complex and enveloping, with raw materials of oriental extraction.
  • Sintra — a fragrance dedicated to the Portuguese city, created by Gaël Montero; a rich and layered olfactory profile with references to the evocative Lusitanian landscape.
  • Cappadocia — a tribute to the rock formations of central Turkey; built around saffron, myrrh and sandalwood, signed by Gaël Montero in 2023.
