History and philosophy

Marc-Antoine Barrois founded his Maison de Couture in Paris in 2009, following his training alongside Dominique Sirop and a collaboration with Jean-Paul Gaultier at Hermès. His is a house of bespoke menswear rooted in a centuries-old family textile tradition, guided by a vision of quiet luxury entirely free of ostentation. His move into perfumery came in 2016 — not as a commercial sidestep, but as the natural extension of an aesthetic already fully formed.

The olfactory chapter began with his 2015 encounter with perfumer Quentin Bisch, with whom Barrois shares cultural references, aesthetic sensibility, and an exacting approach to composition. Since then, the two have worked in creative symbiosis: the couturier provides the narrative vision, the perfumer translates it into molecular accords through a shared language of memory, literature, and astronomy. All creations are produced entirely in France, with a growing commitment to responsible practices, including the gradual removal of controversial UV filters from formulations.

The style

Marc-Antoine Barrois fragrances sit within the woody-spicy and contemporary leather families, with forays into characterful florals and mineral aromatics. Favoured materials include leather, immortelle, saffron, sandalwood, Haitian vetiver, and mineral notes, often paired with unexpected accords — rhubarb, osmanthus, tuberose — that break the predictability of classical combinations. Bisch's approach favours olfactory coherence over showy complexity: compositions that unfold fluidly, with no abrupt transitions between phases.

  • All fragrances are unisex and produced entirely in France, available in eau de parfum and extrait de parfum concentrations.
  • Inspiration is drawn consistently from astronomy and literature — in particular Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince — as a coherent system of names and symbolic references across the entire collection.
  • Leather is the house's defining recurring material: present in various guises — mineral, smoky, spiced — in almost every composition.
  • Extrait versions deepen and intensify the accords of their corresponding eau de parfum, offering a richer and longer-lasting reading of the same olfactory core.
  • Responsible formulation is an integral part of the brand's philosophy, with an ingredient review process initiated as early as 2019.

Best-known products

The collection comprises a small number of titles, each with a clear and distinctive olfactory identity. Below are the maison's defining fragrances.

  • B683 — The maison's debut fragrance (2016), named after the asteroid in The Little Prince and the founder's date of birth. A spiced leather with notes of saffron, black pepper, red chilli, patchouli, and sandalwood. The founding statement of the brand's olfactory language.
  • Ganymede — Launched in 2019 and inspired by the moon of Jupiter discovered by Galileo. An accord of Italian mandarin, salted immortelle, osmanthus, and mineral leather over a base of akigalawood and cedar: the most representative fragrance of the maison's style.
  • Encelade — Introduced in 2022 and dedicated to Saturn's icy moon. Fresh rhubarb on the opening, smoky leather at the heart, closing on sandalwood, vetiver, and tonka bean. Aromatic and dry.
  • Tilia — The maison's first floral fragrance (2024). Linden blossom and sambac jasmine over a base of heliotrope, vetiver, and Georgywood. Luminous and powdery, evoking a summer in the countryside.
  • Aldebaran — Launched in 2025, a tuberose soliflore with milky facets heightened by paprika and maté, on a tonka bean base. A fresh and contemporary take on the great floral diva.
