Liquides Imaginaires: Evocative Artistic Perfumes from Paris

A niche perfumery maison founded in Paris in 2011 by Philippe Di Méo and David Frossard. The brand's defining hallmark is its narrative structure of trilogies, which elevates fragrance to a ritual and symbolic practice, drawing on the sacred and archaic dimension of perfume as a conduit between humanity and the divine. All fragrances are created and produced in France.

History and philosophy

Liquides Imaginaires took shape in October 2011, during Paris Design Week, when designer Philippe Di Méo felt compelled to return perfume to its most ancient origins: holy water, offerings to the gods, ritual. From this intuition, he joined forces with co-founder David Frossard — already a distributor of niche perfumery through Différentes Latitudes — to create a project that sought to restore perfume's full cultural complexity, reclaiming it from its role as a mere accessory of seduction.

The brand's philosophy is built on three Latin concepts that underpin the entire collection: sancti (purification), fortis (protective strength) and tumultu (the duality of shadow and light). Each collection is conceived as a trilogy — three fragrances bound by a shared philosophical or narrative theme — and every bottle echoes the form of an amphora, a precious and silent vessel that holds the genius of the perfume within.

The style

Liquides Imaginaires fragrances are distinguished by the use of high-quality raw materials — resins, incense, oud, amber, musks, rare floral essences — and by compositions of an oriental and aromatic character, often built around striking contrasts between freshness and depth. The fragrances are created in collaboration with internationally trained perfumers, including Sonia Constant, Quentin Bisch and Nisrine Bouazzaoui Grillié, with an approach that places olfactory storytelling above all commercial convention.

  • Les Eaux Delà — the founding trilogy, dedicated to otherworldly waters. It brings together Sancti, Fortis and Tumultu in a journey through the sacred, strength and seduction.
  • Les Eaux Sanguines — inspired by sacred wines and their transformative power. It comprises Dom Rosa, Bloody Wood and Bello Rabelo.
  • Les Eaux Imaginaires — a voyage into landscapes of the mind, with Île Pourpre, Fleuve Tendre and Désert Suave.
  • The Imaginarium — the most recent collection, developed with young perfumers from the Givaudan perfumery school, centred on citrus families and hybridised, recycled raw materials.
  • The Alchemical Trilogy — an exploration of dark and lunar forces, with fragrances of a musky, ambery and spiced character.

The best-known fragrances

The Liquides Imaginaires range spans over forty references, arranged in thematic trilogies. Among the titles that have defined the maison's identity:

  • Sancti — opens with citrus and cypress, moves through a heart of balsamic fir and lavender, and settles on a base of incense, myrrh and labdanum. Signed by Sonia Constant, it is a dry and meditative interpretation of liturgical incense.
  • Fortis — a dark oriental woody, with oud, saffron, cypriol and cumin in the opening; a base of sandalwood, amber and vanilla. Also by Sonia Constant, it is among the maison's deepest and most resinous titles.
  • Dom Rosa — a vinous floral fruity with champagne, grapefruit and pear at the top; Damascene rose and olibanum at the heart; a woody base of cedar and vetiver. Another work by Sonia Constant, it celebrates the rose through the prism of rosé wine.
  • Désert Suave — a warm and enveloping composition of dates, sesame, cardamom, orange blossom and rose. Created by Quentin Bisch and Nisrine Bouazzaoui Grillié, it evokes the breath of an oasis and the spiced sweetness of the desert.
  • Tumultu — the sensual, darker side of the founding trilogy, built around contrasts of shadow and light within a musky and ambery structure, completing the triptych begun with Sancti and Fortis.
