Gritti: Italian Artistic Perfumery of Venetian Inspiration

Gritti Venetia is an Italian artistic perfume house founded by Luca Gritti, a descendant of one of Venice's great noble dynasties. Established between 2009 and 2010, the maison is defined by bold compositions, carefully sourced raw materials, and an aesthetic deeply rooted in Venetian heritage, reinterpreted through a contemporary sensibility.

History and philosophy

Gritti Venetia draws its roots from one of the most illustrious families in the history of the Serenissima. Its guiding spirit is Alvise Gritti — Renaissance merchant and diplomat — who, travelling between Venice, Constantinople and the eastern Mediterranean, encountered spices, balsams and aromatic materials from distant worlds. His figure embodies the ethos of discovery and cultural exchange that continues to shape the maison today.

Luca Gritti, a trained chemist and self-taught perfumer, founded the brand from 2009 onwards, gathering this family legacy and channelling it into an entirely self-produced artistic perfumery project. With direct creative control over production, each composition is conceived to preserve its authenticity from first sketch to final bottle. The family motto, Sustinet nec fatiscit — «one does not yield to hardship» — remains the house's guiding principle.

The style

Gritti fragrances are characterised by generous, full-bodied constructions built for longevity and projection, with a pronounced use of precious raw materials that Luca Gritti sources through direct research on the global olfactory materials market. Recurring fragrance families range from spiced oriental and opulent floral to intense gourmand and Mediterranean citrus, with frequent forays into the woody and resinous. Each collection maintains a precise visual and chromatic identity, expressed equally in the craftsmanship of the flacons — velvet-wrapped bottles, stoppers engraved with the family crest, and presentation boxes inspired by the house's historic jewellery cases.

  • Black Collection — the brand's founding line, with a masculine and unisex character; features bold, intense compositions including 19-68, Decimo and Rebellion.
  • White Collection — explores femininity through floral, fruity and gourmand families; among its most celebrated titles are Chantilly, Rebrodè and Macramè.
  • I Turchesi — a tribute to southern Italy and the Mediterranean, with luminous citrus openings; Pomelo Sorrento has quickly become one of the maison's most recognisable fragrances.
  • Gritti Privé — the house's apical selection, presented in extrait de parfum concentration with velvet-wrapped flacons and 24-carat gold detailing; it represents the most concentrated expression of the house's olfactory research.
  • Ivy Collection — a line defined by sensual, enveloping compositions that complete the maison's creative journey.
