Culti Milano: Milanese Designer Home Fragrances

Culti Milano is a Milanese brand founded in 1988 by Alessandro Agrati, an interior designer who was the first to recognise that living spaces could have a distinct olfactory identity of their own. A pioneer of the reed diffuser, the brand brings together quality raw materials and formal rigour in a home fragrance offering that is internationally recognised.

History and philosophy

Culti Milano was born in 1988 from the personal research of Alessandro Agrati, a Milanese interior designer, around an idea that was entirely new at the time: that domestic spaces could possess an olfactory identity just as much as a visual one. From this insight comes the brand name itself, built around the concept of a 'culture of the environment' — the conscious, considered care of lived space in all its sensory dimensions. The brand was formally established in 1990 and introduced the first natural reed diffuser, a format that would go on to define an entire sector.

The philosophy of Culti Milano rests on three enduring principles: simplicity of form, clarity of fragrance, and quality of raw materials. The scents are developed in the brand's in-house Olfactory Laboratory in collaboration with master perfumers, with the aim of creating recognisable compositions that inhabit a space without overpowering it. The packaging — most notably the bottle inspired by traditional Italian milk bottles — is an integral part of the project, conceived as a design object in its own right, not merely a container.

The style

Culti Milano fragrances are defined by a direct, clean character: citrus accords, aquatic notes, textile threads and dry woods build olfactory profiles that are immediately legible, inspired by the Italian landscape and everyday domestic life. High-quality natural raw materials are selected with care, and each fragrance is formulated so that the different references in the catalogue can coexist within a space without creating dissonance.

  • Decor Collection: the brand's original line, featuring reed diffusers available in sizes from 250 ml up to 2700 ml, suited to spaces of every dimension.
  • Stile Collection: a more streamlined, contemporary design proposition, available in a 500 ml format with a natural maple cap and ivory labels.
  • Candles and sprays: the same catalogue fragrances interpreted in scented wax and fabric-and-room sprays, allowing diffusion to be modulated according to context.
  • Body line: a selection of personal care products — liquid soaps, creams and gels — formulated in the most sought-after home fragrances, extending the olfactory experience beyond the domestic space.

The best-known products

The Culti Milano catalogue is built around a core of signature fragrances, each with its own precise olfactory identity and a long, unbroken presence in the range.

  • Aramara: a citrus accord built on bitter orange, bergamot and cardamom, with a sandalwood base; inspired by Sicilian pastry-making, it is one of the brand's most sought-after fragrances.
  • Tessuto: a clean, enveloping fragrance that evokes the freshness of quality fabrics freshly laundered, with a soft and familiar profile.
  • Aqqua: a fresh aquatic accord, well suited to contemporary spaces that call for a discreet, airy olfactory presence.
  • Mareminerale: conjures the saltiness and minerality of the open sea, with a sunny, Mediterranean character.
  • Thé: a green, lightly tannic note inspired by loose-leaf tea, elegant and subtle, particularly appreciated in minimalist spaces.
