Essential Parfums: Parisian Niche Perfumes by Master Perfumers

A Parisian perfume house founded in 2018 by Géraldine Archambault, built around the idea that haute parfumerie need not come with an inflated price tag. The defining hallmark is complete transparency about the noses behind each fragrance: every flacon places the name of its creator front and centre.

History and philosophy

Essential Parfums was established in Paris in 2018 by Géraldine Archambault, an industry professional with more than thirty years of experience at historic houses including Parfums Aubusson. Her founding question was straightforward: why must creative perfumery cost so much, and why does the talent of the perfumer remain invisible behind a brand name? From that reflection came a clear manifesto — strip away everything superfluous (redundant packaging, commercial middlemen, advertising campaigns) and redirect those resources into the quality of the fragrance itself.

The house operates on a radically transparent model: every fragrance credits the nose who composed it, flacons are refillable and made from recycled glass, the aluminium refills are themselves recyclable, and the alcohol used is derived from sugar beet. Sustainability here is not a marketing position but a structural choice woven through the entire supply chain.

The style

Essential Parfums gives each perfumer complete creative freedom alongside a proper budget to work with top-quality ingredients, many of them traceable or obtained through upcycling processes. The result is a collection of unisex fragrances — legible, unfussy, and thoroughly contemporary — that favour woody, musky, citrus, and oriental-vanilla families. Among the noses who have created work for the house are Quentin Bisch, Calice Becker, Antoine Maisondieu, Bruno Jovanovic, Nathalie Lorson, Fabrice Pellegrin, Olivier Pescheux, and Dominique Ropion.

  • Unisex fragrances with clean, legible structures suited to polished everyday wear.
  • Ingredients sourced globally, with a preference for sustainable and certified raw materials.
  • Perfumer credits printed on the label — a practice still rare even within niche perfumery.
  • Refillable flacons with a pared-back design, conceived to reduce environmental impact without sacrificing elegance.
  • A concise, coherent range in which each title explores a distinct olfactory territory, entrusted to a different nose.

Best-known fragrances

The Essential Parfums collection numbers around twenty fragrances, each signed by a different perfumer. Below are the titles that have attracted the most attention among enthusiasts.

  • Bois Impérial — Created by Quentin Bisch, this is a unisex aromatic woody built around akigalawood (a molecule obtained by upcycling patchouli), Nepalese Timut pepper, and Haitian vetiver. The house's benchmark fragrance.
  • Nice Bergamote — The work of Antoine Maisondieu, this aromatic citrus pairs bergamot, jasmine, ylang-ylang, cedarwood, and tonka bean. One of the titles launched at debut in 2018.
  • Mon Vetiver — Created by Bruno Jovanovic, this explores Haitian vetiver through a woody, aromatic lens, opening fresh before developing into a warm and earthy dry-down.
  • Divine Vanille — Signed by Olivier Pescheux, this is an oriental vanilla with cinnamon and resinous notes — warm and spiced without ever feeling heavy.
  • The Musc — Composed by Calice Becker, this woody-floral musk features lavender, sandalwood, and ginger: a soft, enveloping fragrance with an essentialist structure.
